If you’re reading this, it’s probably your first time visiting Ocean Blooded! Well, get excited because after just a little bit of reading, you might never look at travel the same way again… Just kidding. But what I can promise is that I’ll give you amazing travel tips, stories, and destinations for people like us. Who are people like us? We’re the ones who love the ocean, love surfing, and love experiencing new cultures while learning and growing as individuals. Oh yeah, and we’re broke—haha. As a broke traveling surfer, I go where I can get the most out of a place on a budget, usually living out of a backpack

Whats the dealio?

I grew up in a small beach town in California, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles, called Ventura. My earliest memories are of spending time at the beach, and I picked up surfing when I was just a kid. Growing up my biggest heroes were the globe-trotting pro surfers I read about in magazines. I’d often skateboard over to the grocery store and spend hours sitting on the cold tile floor of the magazine section, flipping through surf magazines and dreaming about the exotic waves and far-off places I read about. Naturally, I had big plans to see the world once I graduated high school.

In 2015, I finally graduated and started planning my adventures. Luckily, I had a job as a beach lifeguard from May to August, which gave me a real shot at traveling. So, for the next year, I worked as a busboy in the fall, winter, and spring, and lifeguarded in the summer to save up for my first big trip.

Once I had enough cash, I chose my first destination: Nicaragua. I went for a week and stayed at a surf camp in a small fishing village called Miramar. This place was magical—tons of waves, warm water, friendly locals, amazing culture, cheap everything, and uncrowded, perfect surf. It was everything I had been dreaming about my whole life. I was hooked.

During that trip, I became friends with the camp’s owner, and he agreed to let me come back and work as a surf guide! So, I quit my lifeguarding job and spent the next two years exploring the country, surfing epic waves, and having the time of my life
